Try a different spelling, or use the *#06# check on your phone.

If an EID number shows up, your device supports eSIM even if it's not listed here.

Important things to know
  • Your device must be carrier-unlocked (not tied to a single network) to install a travel eSIM.
  • Regional variants matter. Phones bought in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and some in Taiwan often lack eSIM hardware, even for models listed above.
  • Some older US/Canada carrier versions of Samsung (S20/S21) and Google Pixel did not support eSIM at launch.
  • The device should not be jailbroken or rooted, as this can block eSIM installation.
  • Travel / data-only eSIMs are designed for phones, tablets and laptops — they generally do not work on smartwatches.
  • When in doubt, the *#06# check on your own device is always the most reliable confirmation.

eSIM compatibility — frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about eSIM support before you travel.

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your device. It works exactly like a physical SIM card, but instead of inserting plastic you simply download a mobile data plan onto your phone's built-in chip using a QR code or an in-app activation — no SIM card needed.

The fastest way is to dial *#06# on your phone — if an "EID" number appears, your device supports eSIM. You can also check your settings: on iPhone go to Settings → General → About (look for "EID") or Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM; on Samsung go to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM. As a rule of thumb, most phones released from 2018 onward (iPhone XR/XS, Galaxy S20 and later) are compatible.

Yes. Your device must be carrier-unlocked (not locked to a specific network) to install a travel or third-party eSIM. On iPhone you can confirm this under Settings → General → About — "No SIM restrictions" means your phone is unlocked. The device should also not be jailbroken or rooted.

Yes. Most modern phones are dual-SIM, so you can keep your physical SIM active for calls and texts on your home number while using the eSIM for mobile data. Recent iPhones (13 series and newer) can even run two eSIMs at once.

No. A travel/data eSIM only adds mobile data — your existing number, SIM and contacts keep working normally. You simply switch your data line to the eSIM while travelling.

Some regional variants don't include eSIM hardware. The most common exceptions are devices bought in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and (for some models) Taiwan, plus certain US/Canada carrier versions of older Samsung and Pixel phones. The model name and the country where it was purchased determine eSIM support, not just the model year — always confirm with the *#06# check.

After purchase you receive a QR code (or in-app install). Go to your eSIM settings, scan the QR code or tap to install, and the plan is added in a couple of minutes. Tip: install before you travel but only switch it on (enable data roaming for the eSIM line) once you arrive at your destination.

Most travel eSIMs are tied to the device they were installed on and cannot be transferred. To use one on a new phone you usually need to reinstall or repurchase it through the provider. Delete the old profile first, and keep in mind many QR codes are single-use.

Cellular smartwatches such as the Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular) and Galaxy Watch (LTE) have an eSIM, but it is normally tied to your home carrier and shares your phone's number. Most travel/data-only eSIMs cannot be installed on a smartwatch — they are designed for phones, tablets and laptops.

A factory reset can remove your eSIM profile. On iPhone you can choose "Keep eSIMs and erase data" to retain it. Because most travel eSIMs cannot be reinstalled once deleted, avoid removing the profile unless you no longer need it.
